A response to the NZTF/GAC “centennial tag” auction and what it means for New Zealand’s recreational hunters
NZDA National President, Callum Sheridan, has released a position statement in response to the New Zealand Tahr Foundation’s (NZTF) recent “centennial tag” bull tahr auction for a hunt in Westland National Park. The auction was won by a hunter, raising $50k NZD for the NZTF.

While fundraising is important for our NGOs, this initiative has raised valid concerns across the hunting sector and highlighted the need for transparency, collaboration, and clear communication.
We believe a united recreational hunting sector is essential for protecting both our interests and New Zealand’s backcountry.
